Shea butter has been used for centuries on the African continent and is completely enmeshed within the history and culture of the West African wooded savanna. Shea butter is mentioned in almost all African historical documents, including a reference as early as Cleopatra's Egypt, which mentions caravans bearing clay jars of shea butter for cosmetic use. Shea butter has always been a staple of African pharmacology.
Shea butter is the oil from the nuts that are gathered from wild trees scattered throughout the fields and forests of the wooded savanna. Shea butter has many useful properties and has been used as a decongestant, an anti-inflammatory for sprains and arthritis, a healing salve for babies' umbilical cords and after circumcision, a lotion for hair and skin care. However, the protective and emollient properties of shea butter are most valued for skin care. Shea butter is a main ingredient in soap production, and is applied to the skin and hair directly to protect them from drying out in the harsh African environment. Scientific observations in the 1940s verified that occurrence of skin diseases was scarce in populations using shea butter (Pobeda 1999). In recent clinical trials, shea butter was found to help to:
Protect skin against climate and UV aggressions
Prevent wrinkle formation
Sooth irritated and chapped skin
Moisturize the epidermis

Make a paste of commercial meat tenderizer and water, place on bite...neutralizes poison.
Apply toothpaste, will stop itching.
Spider Bites - Make a paste of salt and baking soda to relieve pain and itching.
Mosquito Bites - a paste of table salt will stop the itching.
Insect bite preventative....Before going into an area that has insects, take one tablet of 100 mg. thiamine. If you're going camping for a few days, take along a few 100 mg thiamine tablets and take several tablets per day. Insects will stay away.
Bee Stings - Bruise fresh Basil leaves and apply to bee sting. Basil works great, but you can use any plant that bees are attracted to. Basil, in a very short time reduces pain and swelling.
Skin infections - Pour one cup of Baking Soda into your bath. Soak for 15 minutes. Baking soda helps neutralize the ph balance of your skin, and helps it heal naturally.
Nettles - The juice of the nettle will neutralize it's own sting. One teaspoon dried nettle to 1 cup boiling water, remove from heat, cover and steep till cooled. Strain, apply freely on nettle rash, also works for sunburn.
Wart Remover - The Native Americans rubbed the milk from a milkweed plant on the wart, several times daily. Also milk from a dandelion stem, was said to make the wart disappear. Warm Castor Oil applied to the wart is also said to work.
